About this deal

For the non-expert: if it has any colour (e.g. the tiniest slightest yellow tint) you won't get an accurate reading. It takes an expert to colour-grade a stone, to the non-expert Colour Grade D will look exactly the same as Colour Grade J. For the professional jeweller: if you work at a shop counter and don't understand this, please ask your diamond expert to colour-grade the stone for you. It is important to understand what these limitations mean, see our guide to synthetic-diamond testing. If you would like one of the following free gifts with this product, select one from “Select your free gift” above. Diamond testers’ principle of operation is based on the fact that each type of gemstone has its chemical structure, meaning each of them conducts heat and electricity differently. In other words, heat or electricity will pass through an authentic diamond in a different way than it would through cubic zirconia, for example. You can also see, from the principle that you can accidentally make a circuit and get a MOISSANITE reading: by touching the setting of the jewellery, OR by placing the probe tip very very close to the setting so that the electricity 'jumps' - which is why you can't test very tiny stones (e.g. about 1 point). A layer of grease (and some proprietary jewellery cleaners) is likelty to be electrically conductive, so that diamonds will register as MOISSANITE - the stone must be clean, wipe it carefully with a very clean cloth (or clean it with an alcohol). MULTI TESTERS

Type IIa diamond is a very rare type of natural diamond that will show up as 'synthetic' on this tester. So if the tester shows, "CVD / HPHT / Type IIa Diamond" there is a good chance it's synthetic but this is not guaranteed. you are in dispute regarding a stone that you know for certain is not diamond (because you have a diamond tester), it looks like diamond but it is an imitation - what is it? Diamonds read DIAMOND based on thermal conductivity, all the rules and conditions listed above apply.BUT - it's purpose is to tell you if you have a diamond or not, not to tell you if you have a sapphire/ruby, Moissanite, paste etc. By contrast, a large ruby or sapphire will move the LED segments up slowly, and other (very large) stones may or may not produce any reaction at all. you must read this before buying an electronic gem tester (whether you buy it from us or anyone else!) The Presidium ARI will distinguish most synthetic diamond from natural diamonds. It will also detect Moissanite. The Presidium ARI is not a diamond tester for distinguishing diamond from non-diamond, if you need a 'diamond tester, you can find the product here, or see our general guide to buying diamond testers. All 'simple' diamond testers will register the manmade stone Moissanite as being diamond. "Diamond/Moissanite" diamond testers (also called 'Multi' diamond testers) will distinguish the two. The most popular model is the Multi Experior, and it will also indicate ruby/sapphire (but no other gemstone).

When you have finished all your testing, remove the probe from the tester and put it safely away in its case. The Presidium ARI is an essential tool for the experienced jeweller and professional diamond dealer, it is for testing known diamonds.
