About this deal

The merits of this lens are not going to be determined by my conclusions. Over the past three years this lens has received both critical and commercial success, and is, in my opinion, perhaps the most important lens that Sigma has ever made. Sigma was able to completely redefine its position in the market based primarily on the strength of this lens. It is telling that while chart tests show an advantage in resolution for the new Canon 35L II, that advantage is slight despite three additional years of development and a price point double that of the Sigma. The new Canon’s advantage in image quality is a matter of degrees, but it certainly has a stronger advantage in autofocus consistency. That remains the one area that might should give you pause when considering the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART. There is little else to strongly criticize, and some have reported having good autofocus success with their own copy. As the saying goes, “Your Mileage May Vary”. If your budget doesn’t extend to the new Canon 35L II, and you feel you need an f/1.4 aperture, then the Sigma remains the clear choice for quality optics at a reasonable price. I guess some things haven’t changed. Pros: The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens is a beautiful lens that is part of the highly regarded Sigma Art series of lenses. Its 35mm focal range caters to a whole host of styles of photography, but is particularly popular for wedding, portraiture and gig photography. The F1.4 aperture is not only perfect for lower light conditions but will also allow you to capture unique and creative images as well as giving you an attractive shallow depth of field in your images. It r More When the message “Lens update complete.” appears on the camera display, the firmware update of the lens is successfully over. Follow the instructions on the screen to close the process. After closing it, remove the USB cable from the camera and the PC. he message appears even when the software and the lens are appropriate, close the Lens System Software Updater and remove the cable and power OFF the camera. I have had lenses in the past that have had a fault. When ever I have had them repaired they have always broken again. It's like the fault is produced at point of build. I had a nightmare with a Canon 1.4 lens. My ethos now is that if a lens has a fault, replace it outright. No science behind this belief mind haha.

Little changes at f/2.8, although now both lenses show the slight shape of their aperture blades at a 1:1 level to a similar degree.

Just for completeness - every 35 mm can do 40 mm with a tiny bit of cropping - the GM 35 outperforms just a bit cropped any existing 40 mm lens by a good deal at a fraction of the weight - photographer's wet dreams 😅 It’s interesting to me the very different approach that Sigma and Tamron have taken with dealing the challenge of focus with large aperture primes. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART has a large aperture and quite fast focus but at the expense of having a very small focus throw. It barely has 90 degrees of focus throw, and the distance between 6 feet and infinity is TINY on the focus ring. It makes manual focus very difficult and even makes me wonder if this doesn’t contribute to the lens’ somewhat poor focus accuracy in that range. I was deciding between the Nikon and the Sigma. Talk to a friend and he said "If you really want the Nikon, buy his Nikon 35mm 1.4g and he will buy the Sigma." With many applications in aerospace and other industries, glass ceramics is an extremely tough type of crystallized glass that serves as the foundation for Clear Glass Ceramics. While featuring the high transmittance required of optical devices, this advanced new material combines greater hardness than chemically strengthened glass and greater flexibility than sapphire crystal glass. These qualities make Clear Glass Ceramics the ideal material for protective lens filters.

V této kategorii patří mezi levnější objektivy (Canon stejných parametrů stojí okolo 40 tisíc, Nikon cca 47 tisíc, Sony zhruba 45 tisíc), v recenzích bývá řazen na první místo. Narrowing the aperture to f/2 improves overall score to 3,100 lines, with strong performance in the middle and edges of the frame (2,400 lines). There's further improvement at f/2.8 (3,226 lines), f/4 (3,809 lines), and f/5.6 (4,386 lines). Diffraction sets in at f/8 with the 5DS R sensor, cutting the resolution a bit, but still managing a superb 3,985-line score. It's more of an issue at f/11 (3,630 lines) and f/16 (2,966 lines).Above: here’s the Sigma 35 1.4 with its supplied petal lens hood. Note the Sony lens with its hood is almost the same length as the new Sigma without it.

The three partners collaborate on the L mount specifications for lenses and cameras. There is some degree of active co-ordination, and no one else may join without the permission of all members. I know it's short-ish focal length so I guess I should have low expectations in the Bokeh department but I do not like the Bokeh on it. Great wide open editorial style shots. There is one figure here where Sigma lags behind several competitors that I will note, and that is in minimum focus distance/maximum magnification. This has been and continues to be an area of strength for the 35mm focal length. 85mm lenses typically have very poor figures here (a maximum magnification figure of .11-.13x is common), and even 50mm lenses (where the standard used to be around .15x), but 35mm lenses have always bettered those figures. The Sigma’s ability to focus down to one foot/30cm and have a .20x magnification (1/5th life size) is useful, but not nearly as useful as the Canon 35 IS at .24x and is doubled by the Tamron’s .40x figure (one of the greatest strengths of that lens!).Jako první pevný objektiv pro zrcadlovku Canon však doporučují Canon EF 50mm f/1,8 STM => to je ideální vstup do světa objektivů a s pevným ohniskem (ačkoli podstatně levnější, tak úžasná kresba i ostrost)
