Romanzo Criminale’ tells the story of an Italian criminal called Lebanese, whose mission in life is to rule the underworld of Rome. He does so by creating a gang of merciless criminals. Lebanese leads the gang with his cohorts Freddo and Dandi, who get involved in all kinds of illegal activities prevalent in Italy from the 1970s to 1990s. [1] Gang fights were endemic in these neighborhoods throughout the 1970s -- although one single death did change the course of this era's history. In 1971, Cornell Benjamin, a widely respected "peace counselor" of the Ghetto Brothers was killed while trying to break up a fight between rival gangs. Rather than seek revenge for the death of their leader as anticipated, the Ghetto Brothers called for a peace meeting among the warring gangs of the Bronx. Petski, Denise (July 20, 2020). When boss Vito Genovese was imprisoned in the late 1950s, various influential members began running the crime family through a ruling panel/committee. The panel consisted of acting/front boss Thomas "Tommy Ryan" Eboli, underboss Gerardo "Gerry" Catena and consigliere Michele "Big Mike" Miranda, while others served in the advisory capacity. Mike Coppola, an influential capo, also helped the panel. In the early 1960s, Mike Coppola was imprisoned on tax evasion charges and followed in the footsteps of his predecessor Ciro Terranova, being put on the shelf after his release from prison in 1963. Coppola later moved to South Florida and effectively retired. His crew, with his vast illegal interests went to Anthony Salerno.
