About this deal

However, the people have spoken…they asked and I delivered. Here is my in-depth Samsonite Prodigy carry on review.

As the Prodigy has two sets of zippers: One for the just closing the luggage normally, and the one for expanding, this means you basically have two sets of zippers securing the contents as well! Which is nice for securing contents, but you still do have to open two sets of zippers if you choose to close both of them every single time. Build…. Quality? I can only give my thoughts on it. Since I was buying it to use not just review, I have to say the value was there otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it. In fact, compared to other Samsonite’s, I thought it was pretty cheap. I find the trolley pull handle still a bit wobbly like every other luggage I’ve owned – but it’s still better than the others I’ve had. (I’m not sure if there are any non-wobbly ones?) But that’s fine as you’re supposed to only pull the luggage from it, not carry it from the handle. And as for the carry handles they’re very comfortable and have a hard topside but a rubbery and soft underside which makes for a very nice handle.Extra large suitcases are just as personalisable as any other suitcase size. Whether you want to engrave, emboss or add a personalised luggage tag to your suitcase, we have the best option for you. The other advantage of polycarbonate over other materials is the texture. The finish on the Samsonite Prodigy is beautiful, not only to look at but also to touch. It is a really classy design and really delivers a business class finish. The suitcase holds a relatively generous 40 liters of capacity. The design of the internals is minimalist to say the least. This is not a criticism; the bareness of the internals means more capacity and still looks very stylish.

The Samsonite build was excellent as expected and it has a reputable warranty that delivers too. That alone is worth paying a little extra for. I wanted a suitcase that was a carry on that would be flexible to accommodate both my business and leisure needs.

About the Samsonite brand

On first touching the Samsonite Prodigy, you may feel that the polycarbonate is thin…too thin perhaps. This was an initial concern to me too…but my mind was put at rest over several months. It has come through totally unscathed and is testament to Samsonite’s ability to produce great materials. We have three ways for you to personalise your large suitcase. You can engrave or emboss your suitcase, or you can add a personalised luggage label to your suitcase.

My requirements were mainly business related. I travel for work…a lot. Mainly short internal flights with an overnight stay. I therefore only use carry on luggage. It needs to look smart enough to wheel into an office environment without raising eyebrows, but flexible enough to allow me to travel with ease.

The handle set up is pretty standard on this suitcase. One at the top and a helpful one on the side too. They are strong and well made. The biggest capacity gain is the design of the wheels. Normally, the wheel covers are recessed high into the suitcase body. This design sits lower and thus takes less room meaning more capacity. It is a small detail that makes a difference, a very typically Samsonite trait. The super-light ranges like Neopulse and B-Lite have taken buyers away from traditional Samsonite hard-shell cases like these. Things have turned around, now it is hard-shell cases like this one which are unusual! So, this concludes the Samsonite Prodigy review. I hope you found it useful and helps inform your buying decision. Before you do commit to buying any suitcase, remind yourself that all suitcases are not similar and do not perform similarly. In this market, you mainly get what you pay for.
