About this deal

Just as with the MK3, the MPC style drum pads are some of the best out there for finger drumming. They have great response & sensitivity. You can achieve some really delicate tones with these pads. KeyStep 37’s unique & enhanced Chord mode takes your single-note melodies and unfinished ideas and transforms them into musical stepping stones. Choose from multiple voicings, instrument-like strum effects, and velocity settings and make your music really sing. Along with these new controls are a range of new features that you can take full advantage of such as the KeyStep 37's unique Chord mode. In the arena of keys, we’d say the Arturia does have the slight edge. With the Keystep 37 having slightly longer keys which sit on a deeper keybed, when compared to the MPK Mini Plus, you do get that bit extra feel. Something that makes the Arturia a tad more playable. Additionally, the Chord Modes change the Launchkey MK3’s keys and pads into an interactive control surface where every note you play is tonally and harmonically associated. The arpeggiator lets you explore new ideas while the Mutate function reshuffles your patterns creatively.

This Chord mode lets you choose from 12 chord types and a variety of strum effects, then spread the voices out into complex, velocity-sensitive parts that sound and respond great. Assignable 16 MIDI CC parameters can be used across four switchable banks to really get the most out of your MIDI hardware and software while the four new controls give you excellent realtime control for truly dynamic performances. The Centre of Your Setup Novation’s alternative offers a similar form factor. It doesn’t have CV outs or a sequencer but instead goes to town with real-time MIDI control knobs/pads for detailed control of DAW plug-ins. A plug-in bundle with software instruments and a decent LCD screen sweeten the deal. For those who are short on cash, the Nektar SE25 offers you great features and portability at a low cost, making it our best value choice for this list. The Novation Launchkey Mini MK3 is a great mini keyboard for several reasons. First, it only has 25 keys and is truly portable. Across the top of the MPK Mini Plus, you also find a line of transport controls to help you control various aspects of your DAW via the keyboard itself. Out of the box, the MPK Mini Plus comes with integration for: FL Studio, Garageband, Logic Pro and Ableton Live

KeyStep comes with 8 different patterns. You can select between them with the "Seq / Arp Mode" rotary encoder.

Stepping stone

Through the use of the Shift key these 4 knobs become 4 banks of 4 MIDI CC number controls for mapping to any MIDI synth – handy! Arpeggiator Buy the Arturia KeyStep 37 from PMT Online now for an easy-to-use keyboard MIDI controller with a built-in sequencer, arpeggiator and much more with fantastic control and versatile functions. Arturia KeyStep 37 MIDI Keyboard Controller and Sequencer Key Features: Yes – there’s a reason that Akai midi keyboards are by far some of the most popular out there. They’re not just good – they’re excellent. It is truly portable, with the added benefit of not needing any cables to function. The microKey can connect to your iPad/iPhone music apps such as KORG Gadget, KORG Module, and GarageBand, as well as any MIDI-capable music production software on your Mac or Windows computer.

There’s no need to install a driver; just use your preferred music software (or install any of the applications provided with microKEY Air), connect it to your computer and you’re all set up. While the pads on the Novation may not have the feel of those of the MPK Mini Plus, they do have polyphonic aftertouch. A nice easter egg!! This is augmented by Scale mode; this allows you to map the 3-octave keyboard range using your preferred scale. When a key is played, this then quantises automatically with the closest note in the scale you've decided upon. Transform a single-note melody into a chord sequence at the touch of a button. Use the 4 new controls to choose from 12 chord voicings, including a user-defined chord, for distinct harmonic flavours. Energize your voicings with time-based strum effects, select the number of notes per chord and adjust velocity sensitivity - the harder you hit, the more notes you’ll hear.Another great feature of the Launchkey MK3 is Custom Modes. Here, you can simplify communications between controller and software. Arpeggiator Mode The Arpeggiator mode allows KeyStep to play consecutively the note of a chord that is played on the keyboard according to different patterns. This mode is engaged when the Seq/Arp switch is set on Arp. Selecting a pattern: Prior to pitting the Akai MPK MIni Plus up against other midi keyboards in its segment, it’d be wise to first understand the specs of the MPK Mini Plus. Do so, & you’ll be able to fully grasp what the Akai MPK Mini Plus offers, & therefore reach a more accurate decision as to whether it’s right for you. Overcome creative hurdles. Smash artistic barriers. Discover new musical horizons. A powerful tool that seamlessly controls your hardware and software instruments simultaneously. An exploratory device that encourages spontaneous creativity with its musical features. Surrender to the musical journey - where will KeyStep 37 take you?
