In another part of the flashback, Miyako assumes that Hakozaki was only drunk and wasn't really interested in women and avoids her. I love how determined Sayaka was in confessing her feelings to Touko and didn’t react any differently to Touko after getting a response to her confession. Sayaka just laughs at how cute they are together (in the middle of Hakozaki-sensei berating Miyako) and Hakozaki-sensei gets all flustered. If these characters had not taken this time away from each other, taken this time to reflect and discover, then what I think is going to happen in the final volume would not work.
