About this deal

S. first edition sets are considerably more scarce than their British counterparts, particularly sets with true red spine panels printed on thicker paper. In Volume III we enter into the unrest to the 13 Colonies; unrest that had previously lay within embers smoldering until kindle had been placed to the stove. The work met with acclaim and proved an international best-seller, further vindicating Churchill's receipt of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953.

At this juncture it has become clear that the mixture of Church and State was a mixture that everyone knew at the time was lethal; however, the anger of Parliament attempting to create the crown as a figure head is all too apparent. The second ranked Briton of all time, behind the author, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, escaped recognition. Churchill's four volume epic, A History of the English-Speaking Peoples, was published between 1956 and 1958, after the author finished his second and final premiership and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. First edition thus, handsomely bound, of this illustrated abridgement of the History of the English-Speaking Peoples, Churchill's history of Britain, the British Empire, and the United States, first published in four volumes from 1956 to 1958. This highly sought after set comes in the original pictorial dust jackets, each with a bare minimum of wear, and scarce thus. Worn and torn dust jacket has tape repairs to the reverse, foxing and is now in a protective sleeve, foxing to the page edges, owner's and gift inscriptions.

It was however a tail wind from the recent American Revolution – implemented much differently as well. This inconsistency doubtless owes in part to the fact observed by Richard Langworth that "Some first editions were printed on much thinner paper to meet demand; invariably, these are found with very dark red, that is, maroon, spine panels instead of the normal bright red.Four volumes have no manner of way of encapsulating all of the history but the highlights and details to these events are placed in context to the love of one’s country. Political opponent Clement Attlee suggested the work should have been titled "Things in history that interested me. S. and Canadian first editions of A History of the English-Speaking Peoples were published simultaneously.
