About this deal

Fernox LS-X External Leak Sealer is a fast-acting silicone paste used as an external leak sealer and jointing compound. They mention that it works well to seal numerous leaks in waste water pipes, high pressure systems, and compression joints. The best use I can find for it these days is stopping the cheap brass fitting threads squeaking when your tightening them up.

Although designed mainly for plumbing fittings, It is really good for airlines and small pneumatic fittings and can also be used as a slow setting "locktite" on nuts and bolts, and some bearings, the sort of thing that's always useful on the shelf. This is just like aquarium sealant, which works out cheaper, but requires a caulk gun, and I didn't want to have to use one every time I want to seal a joint. It is suitable for use on hot and cold water services and is completely safe to use with drinking water.

You can put it on wet surfaces but it's a lot easier if they're dry - if it's still leaking, I find it much harder to get a good seal, and it definitely won't work if the system is under pressure, but other than that, it's worked every time for me. reminded me about the time i was painting and got more gloss paint on my hands than on the job, without thinking i picked up the bottle of brush cleaner/paint stripper and doused my hands in it and rubbed them together as you would with soap and then seconds later my brain responding to signals from my hands telling me that they were on fire and glowing bright red! I still wont put it in my boiler as im all but 'must be natural' semi organic leaf hop no pellets no plastic no poison man but then I probably shouldn't be drinking beer. Brilliant for screw-in or push-in irrigation or hose fittings instead of PTFE tape - works a lot better. Some mention that it sticks to most surfaces, including PP (polypropylene plastic) and makes a fantastic anti slip product, while others say that it's not quite as sticky as most glues and leaves a tacky mess until it dries.

If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag.

I've not yet tried to seal fittings in LDPE/HDPE (normally nothing will stick to it) pipes, but think it would work if connections/fittings are PP or that black rubbery stuff (it defo sticks to those). We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. but I've not seen it visibly degrade over time in the boiler, so combined with the relatively small quantities contacting a lot of beer then I personally struggle to become very concerned about it. So, I decided the best way to fix the drip whilst enthroned, was to squeeze a load of LSX onto my fingers, then reach back and liberally apply it to the general area of the leak. This was suggested on a YouTube clip as something you could use in conjunction with PTFE tape on plumbing joints.
